My mom and dad used to debate over whether they would rather get 2nd or 3rd place in a race, and why. my dad always said it would be easier to go home 3rd than go home 2nd. I never quite understood what he meant until today...
Last year OU killed us...77-0. While it was embarassing, made for the worst game of the season, and added to the rest of our heartbreaking season, it was expected. We did not expect to win, we did not deserve to win, and we did not play at all anywhere near there level. Today, OU barely squeezed through with a 42-35 victory over us. And man, did it hurt! Literally. my heart sank as I saw the pass ALMOST caught in the end zone, as I saw Reggie pulled because of an "injury" (ask me my opinion if you dont know), as I saw an interception thrown, 2 fumbles recovered by OU and followed by touchdowns. And then it sank harder as I thought of how incredibly we played the first half. It was our town, our field, our day. Bad part: the players knew it. I told my roommate as the team came back after the half, "If our team doesnt come out stronger than the beginning, OU will pass us up" There is no way the #2 team in the nation will go down without a fight. Well, our offense wasnt in it second half. I'll spare you the gruesome details (cause if you dont already know them, you shouldnt have to) but it ended up being played to the last second and one of the top 5 heartbreaks of my life. (sad i know, but my life is college football) But, before you go off thinking we pulled our tails between our legs and gave it to them, lets look at the stats. We did well. It was the best game of football I have ever seen and we proved today we can very well play at their level and we are competitors. The fightin texas aggies are back 100% and we are not going away. Look out in the '05-'06 football season cause we are going to dominate. Today, we gave OU a run for their money and they came out on top. I promise you and would bet my life that next year we will be giving them a run for their money again...they can only hope the results will be the same.
So, as I go to bed and try to define myself through something other than aggie football, I remind you all that Jaxson and Reggie are still my boyfriends...and this is still the turnaround season of all times. :) Wrecking Crew was back today, especially second half, and I was glad to see it. I will go to bed on a happy note, and wake up hopefully thinking of something (or someone ;) even happier. :) have a great night all, and try your hardest to overcome the heartbreak...I know I will be! au revoir
